Took us a while to find, I had to get the schematics out and found the would run that way. WHen that fuse blows I bet it wont shift out of park. Let me know PM me with more questions or post.
In our case it was a saturday nite, unplugged the harness and it was melted together and still causing a short, would create smoke and couldnt safely drive, was SAFETY reason to cut it, I am sure any reputable ford garage would take that into consideration
Thx. for all the recent posts. I just got back into town and took a quick look. I'm assuming that you are talking about the conn. with 3 wires plugged into the side of the master cylinder. Is that correct?
Superduty,
Yes, I guess I didn't fully understand what subford meant. Anyways, I checked the conn. but it's not wet, or melted. I had a real hard time getting the conn. loose. The clip is underneath and in a tough spot. I finally gave up until I got more info. Based on the emails below, I should take the truck over to the Ford house regardless to get this conn. replaced; even if it doesn't fix my problem.
AJ, no, this doesn't effect me driving the truck. It will shift out of park fine.

Correct. Mine doesn't look like the one in your picture. The only conn. I have on the master cylinder is the one on the side (3 wires). It's the same one in your pic. that's behind the blue sheet. Where is my pressure switch located? You say down on the frame. Is it easy to find? If it's down on the frame could it still be my problem?
Thx. I think I found it. It looks like the one in your pic., but down below as you indicated. I felt underneath, but it wasn't wet. Anyways, I will get it fixed by Ford this week. This will at least correct this defect even if it doesn't fix my problem.
OK. I did as you suggested. Unfortunately, my fuse blew with all of this disconnected. Just for clarification. Is the turn signal switch conn. a little bigger than the brake light switch. The one I disconnected was directly below the steering column. It had two conn. tabs (one on each side). It was kind of hard to disconnect. If this is the right one, then none of this worked. What should I try next?
BTW.. Sorry for all the questions, but it's the only way that I can learn. If you disconnect the brake light switch doesn't that by default rule out everything downstream of that circuit (i.e. brake lights, trailer lights, etc.). This is what I was trying to ask earlier, but I don't think I was clear.
Thanks again for all the help. Maybe I can get this truck up and running again very soon.
no, because the brake lights run through the turn signal switch.
I completely forgot about the brake pressure (cruise deactivator) switch recall... just unplug the connector andtape it up out of harm's way untill you can get it in and have the fix done.
I'm having the same problem... the connector/harness/pressure switch in front of the mc and brake fluid reservoir is melted and leaking fluid causing a short. I've disconnected and it's not blowing the fuse. Is this covered in the recall for a '96 F-150? It doesn't seem to show up in the documentation.
