sparkplugs?

What sparkplugs for 89 460? The manual says motorcraft but I have not seen motorcraft plugs. What number autolite or champions?

Looks like you need Autolite #25 or Champion #18. I'd go for Motorcrafts though. You can buy them at Rockauto.com for cheap cheap

Whatever you buy, get copper element plugs, no platinum. These trucks hate the platinum plugs.

Oh-oh! I just put platinums in mine (351). What's wrong with them? I have never bought into the platinum thing but this time I talked myself into it because I got them for $2 a piece and the standards were $1.80.... Just curious.

Should I get rid of them or run em?

Lol. Some guys have been able to run them just fine, while a lot of other guys used them and plugs fouled as soon as they ran the motor. It's kind of a hit and miss thing. But nobody has had any problems with the copper Motorcraft plugs so must of us just stick with those

So if they didn't foul already I should be good to go? I don't want to be on a trip pulling my trailer somewhere and start having troubles. That takes away from my beer time you know.... I knew I should have put in Motorcraft!!! I shouldn't have read this thread either then I wouldn't know any better..LOL!

Lol, well... Some of the threads that I read, the guys didn't have problems right away. I seem to recall one guy sayin' something about checking his plugs at 5k miles and see them all jacked up... He even shared some pics. That was over a year ago if I remember right, so good luck finding it

You should be okay, if anything you'd just lose performance big time when the plugs start to go south. If you're really worried about it, change em out for some copper Motocrafts. Rockauto.com has them for pretty cheap.

If you can't get Motorcraft, Autolite will perform identical. Be sure to get copper and just change them out every 20k-30k miles.

The reason I asked is Rockauto has only 1 plug in stock and said they no longer will be getting the motorcraft ASF42C. I figure if they are no longer going to carry the plug it is either not being made or they have had trouble. My local dealer wants $4.11 apiece for them.

8 x $4.11 = $32.88...

To me that's cheap insurance...

I just wonder why Rockauto told me they would no longer be carrying them. They told me they had one single asf42c in stock and when it was gone that would be it.

I always run Motorcraft platinum plugs in my old 460. I have about 60,000 on my current set, and around 220,000 on the engine itself. I usually change the plugs at about this mileage. This is my third F250 with this engine, and the two previous ones went to 300,000, I am guessing this one will too. Works for me, but your mileage may vary.
