Cold running

When accelarating with cold engine, I hear what sound likes a "mass air flow". After the engine warms up it goes away.

Is that a bad thing???? What is the purpose of the exhaust valve??? Does it hurt anything to hear this sound and still drive??

No. most guys complain that it wastes fuel. It is supposed to help your truck warm up in the winter but some guys have reported no change after unplugging it.
It sounds like a air compressor letting the air go.
If you accelerate it will open back up.
Some say that the EBPV gets cloged, but I don't know what they are referring to.

So it just forces exhaust heat to engine, to warm it?

yep it is just like an exhaust brake and you can convert it to do that.

It restricts the exhuast flow to put a load on the engine to help it warm up faster, problem is that it doesn't work well and malfunctions frenquently!

yup i've had mine unplugged since last winter with no problems... starts and runs great in the cold with pretty much the same warm up time (if not on high idle, on high idle the cab is warm within 10-15 minutes below freezing)

It raises my EGT's up to 400 from about 150 when I'm warming mine up with it on...
