You don't want to know what we are spending for fuel for our heavy equipment every month.

6000 in 15 days don't even come close.

20 years ago I averaged around $2500 a month in fuel cost, not including mileage taxes. Today, I could not run 2 weeks on that amount.

I don't how an owner/op makes it with the equipment and operating expenses in todays world.

If only people really knew!!

That's the whole point, they aren't making it. The profit margin has dropped to the point that a lot of guys are selling off their rigs and going back to work for companies. I'm seeing at least twice the number of tractors for sale around town than normal. It's sad that the government hasn't stepped up and done anything about the diesel prices considering it's plays such a huge role in our economy.......which has seen better days to begin with.

Thirty years ago 500 dollars would get me from Denver to NYC and back at 4 MPG.
At todays prices that same trip would take 3550 dollars in the truck I used to drive back then.

Notice that is over a 700% increase in fuel alone.
An apportioned plate back then cost 400 a year, I have no idea what they are now.
I am also trying to remember what my insurance cost, I fairly sure it was under 100 a month though.

When I retired in 1983 if the freight did not pay 1 dollar or more a mile it never went on my truck.

Fuel was still under 1.25 most places, under a dollar a gallon at many places.

Looking at the prices you are paying, I see I did a good thing getting out while the getting was good.
I think about going back out there every once in a while, then I look out the window at the traffic and know I was nuts to think like that.

diesel is overpriced , even in mexico its pushing 3 bucks, but sold by the liter in pesos. and still at least 500 ppm diesel not ulsd. i think in louisana had the cheapest diesel or texas. lots of cars run propane there. cheaper than mexican gas.
