79 C6 Madness
So I remove the pan, take an oil shower, remove the filter then (this is where my judgement goes astray) I remove the valve body. When I did, a gasket comes out in two pieces and smacks me in the face. Once I got the oil cleaned off and checked online, I realized that this was the number one thrust selector gasket. I also found a tiny pin (1/2 inch and no thicker than a piece of spaghetti) which I still cannot identify although no pictures of the valve body contents look similar. There's no way to get the gasket back on without dropping the transmission and this pin could be from anywhere (perhaps not from my truck since I work on multiple vehicles in that area). So I did the only thing I could think to do... put it back together with left over parts. Bad form, I know.
The guys on the 79 year forum have showed me that the pin is actually the small pin that holds a tiny spring and ball (which seemed to be intact despite the lack of pin).
The gasket I'm still unsure of.
The truck is shifting well and the question is... I'm I driving on impending doom?
