I'll keep this as short as possible. I'm driving a 2006, 6.0, F350 pickup w/74000 miles. It started leaking engine oil down over the starter and onto the ground. The dealer checked everything and informed me the right cylinder head gasket was the culprit. They replaced it. I threw a fit for them not replacing both gaskets. It still leaked. They replaced the left gasket. It still leaked. Now they're blaming it on the "rear engine cover" being cracked. Said they've never had one in with this problem. My question, "Is this the housing that holds the rear main oil seal?, and how big is this cover? The oil is leaking from high on the rear of the engine. Anyone else heard of such of a story as this???? By the way, my truck has been in the dealers shop a total of 1 month today. Thanks
First off i would find a dealer with a "Qualified & Certified 6.0 tech". Qualified being the key word here. The only way to positively determine the source of the oil leak is to add dye to the engine oil, drive it for awhile and then have the tech trace the leak with the dye to find its source. Several things can leak on a 6.0 and the majority of them tend to run toward the rear and bottom of the motor.
In the 6.0 tech folder is a link to the 6.0 bible, it will show pictures of all the components in the engine.
Thanks Hat, I agree. "Qualified" being the key word. I'm wondering now if they are. They did dye the engine on both visits to try to find the leak. The info in the Tech Folder is helpful. Hoping to get my ride back today. Thanks again.....
