Hi guys im new to the boards here, but have been an avid member to the fullsizebronco forum for quite a while. I used to have a 79 bronco and have recently come into possession of what i though was a 79 f150 4x4 short bed, but upon recieving the truck and looking at the frame and steering setup i have come to realize that i have recieved a pieced together truck. The body is indeed from a 79 f150 but it has the power assist steering setup and the bed rails are narrower then the bed mounts. The axle is deffinatley not a d60 so the 3/4 ton frame is out of the question. This would lead me to assume that its a early model f100 frame right? I've been searching and lurking in the forum for a while and have read about a frame stamp under the cab on the passenger side that would be able to tell me what frame it really is. Is there any truth in this? Any help would be appreciated. Oh and the front axle has disk brakes and is a hipinion 44.
I know the 67-72 frames are narrower. I do know that the VIN#s on the 73-79 frames are on the passenger frame rail under the cab and between the firewall and radiator support. I would think it's the same for the older style frames as well.
It's true. The stamp is on the passenger side around where the front cab mount is on top and stamped into the top of the frame. It might be in front of, parallel or just a little behind the passenger side front cab mount. Happy hunting!
i'm planning on tearing the truck down and finding that stamp this weekend. Thanks for all the info thus far, but does anyone know what the decoding system is to the vin's on the frame?
