Randy why wait 87 days? Just get rid of it now. I dont think its your prblem right now though. Norton will let you DL anything you want cause just the act of DLing does'nt exacute the file. Once you excute or unzip the file norton will ****** it if it contains what norton consider harmful files. For example if you unzip or excute a program thats network tools norton will grap it and call it hacker tools. The sad thing is hackers do use these type tools so norton is some what justified.

I was given the impression that if I took it out before it expired they may void my warrenty because I'm contributing to the problem.I've tried downloading exe files with everthing turned off...AV,Spybot S&D.,ad-aware, spyware terminater and even the firewall. I think you're right this must be a system issue or possibly a browser security issue.I've both IE7 and Firerox but I may try opera next.

I just discovered through the Comodo forums that this may be a firewall issue.Although I did try with the firewall turned off it may be that it won't completely disengage when unloaded.

Norton is a complete resource hog, it just plain sucks, and tends to lock things down too well, and attempts to integrate itself way to far into the system for me to feel safe. My moms laptop with norton profesional on it, has over 10 services running from norton alone.

The paid edition of AVG and Avast and alot others are still cheaper and better then norton. Hell, my shcool has switched to Nod32 over norton

Randy lets see if we can fix this tonight. Go to control panel and create a restore point and check and see if the windows fiewall is enabled. If it is the disable it. Go to msconfig at start find your firewall and deselect it and let windows reboot. On reboot make sure your firewalls are disabled. You should beable to cross check between secrity in the controlpanel and processes in task manger. Try to DL. See what happens. If no good then shut down norton etc etc.
If you cant disable the firewall then jerk it out. Thats what the restore point is for so if we have to reinstall it we can do it fairly painless. You can keep norton from starting at boot by going to msconfig and unselecting Capp.
I dont see the issue w/ the warranty cause w/ a restore point you can uninstall the norton then if something comes up in the next 86 days just restore.

As I said earlier, I cannot remove norton until the 90 days are up do to warranty and because I've already had a problem I can't afford to be without a warranty. I'll use my new laptop to do any exe. downloads.I know you guys are right its just that I'm stuck with norton for now.I was just hoping that there would be a work-around or some setting I've missed.

exiled,I just got back on the net.I tried to uninstall but it seems to hold-on like an ex-wife to alimony.I had no browsers or any way of getting back on the web and now restore no longer works. On the plus side, although I still have the AV program, the firewall is gone(I think)If you or anyone else out there knows of the site with the uninstall instructions I would appreciate it. I talked to my ISP and they told me uninstalling Norton solves alot of their customers issues and they said they'd give me a letter advising removal if there are any warranty problems.

Norton has a removal tool on their website that automatically removes all Symantec products..

here is a link.

Randy, really you must be doing something wrong. Removeing your firwall or any program for that matter wont effect your restore. Matter of fact that what its there for.
Now lets get to busness. If you remove norton like I said earlier you wont have any problems. The problems people have trying to remove norton is that norton on default is started at boot. So symantec has a few files that protects it from being shut down. So what we got to do is shut it down. Now we have some options it's just what eaiser for you. Lets start at the very easiest. Go to task manger{Ctrl-Alt-Delete} or {Ctrl-Alt_Delete} which ever you like. Go to processes and skim the list find ccapp. Hightlight it then click end process. Look on your toolbar you should see in about a minute the norton icon disappear. Go to control panel add or remove programs and remove livereg, liveupdate, norton update, and norton. If you dont have any of these dont worry about it. If you get any problems ditch this method and move on to the next one. This one you keep norton from loading at start. So you go to run and type in msconfig and select the start tab. Unselect the ccapp box and at the bottom select apply then select restart. {This is why I try the taskmanger first}. Ok now on restart norton should not be running if you did it right.
I tell ya what lets just it this way. Restart your machine and as soon as it starts back press F8 this should take you to safemode menu. If your machine has a different safemode key use it. Any safemode will work. Now there is no reason for norton to be running. Go to control panel and remove norton and all the other programs that apply to norton. Do a search of norton and symantec. Right there inthe search window delete the found files. You dont have to go anywhere else to delete if yoiu delete in the search window it'll delete it off the machine.{some people dont relize you can delete or open files in the search window}. This is where you want to be very careful. Go to run type regedit. When the reg editor open go to file sel;ect export choose where you want to store it. I choose desktop myself but each to their own. I always name it reg_backup. Now that I've done this I always go to my reg file and open it with notepad and made sure its there. Now this is done use the find option {Ctrl-F}and look for norton keep doing it untell you get to the end and delete each key at every stop. After you reach the end use the find again and search for symantec and delete each stop. Now once you've done this reboot to normal windows. I'm telling you norton is gone. There is no way it can be there. If you have a problem All you have to do is double click your reg file and it'll apply it.
Randy now norton is gone. The reg. deletes stripped it of its hooks. Safemode stopped its heart and removing the programs collapsed its lungs.
Again I dont believe norton is your problem. If it is you can go into option and look at the settings. In all your settings you should have then set to ask you what to do. I never let a program have the freedom to make its on discussions. I could really exploit and system like that.

Hey Randy I was just nosing around in IE and I noticed in the secrity there is "activeX will not be downloaded". I did'nt spend much time w/ it, you might beable to go to the setting tab and unselect check for signuters before download. I have no problems downloading ActiveX files and mine is'nt checked. I dont know if this has anythingto do with each other, but I will...........

Hi all, sorry I didn't get back to you but I've had to completely recover my system twice!(the 2nd time was operater error) I finally figured out the issues (or some of them )I tried to use the uninstall tool from norton however it won't work on my system because I had the corporate edition installed. The uninstall feature wouldn't work because some files were corupted so norton appeared uninstalled but wasn't.When I attempted to remove it as exiled suggested I experianced a brain fart miss-keyed and removed a client security services file.CSS activates an embedded chip before the boot and is a hardware security feature, the file I removed was the 1 that allows CSS to recognize my loggon code. Although I'm still not sure exactly what was wrong , I now have a Comodo firewall,aV and anti-malware program installed and they seem to be working well. I just tested downloading exe. files and it worked perfectly. now I need to test my P2P and torrent downloading and I'll be all set.Unfortunatly I've used up my downloading Quota for the month so I won't be doing much until Jan.
Thanks for all the help exiled I'll be saving this info. you posted as I'm sure I'll be using it again. (letting me play in the registry is like giving a 6-year old a loaded M-16 for X-mas and hoping he'll figure it out!! it may happen but I won't bet my paycheck on it) Thanks again , Hopefully this puppy is fixed.

Your welcome. I'm glad to hear your up and running. My native American side will say the registry is strong medicine. Almost ever program you remove it's hooks is still in the registry. Do I understand you right norton was your problem? Anyway good luck.
