I cant add to my last thread cause I havent been back for awhile. Been busy making a living. Anyway, the vibration that I talked of some time ago is getting worse it feels. I just yesterday in 28 degree weather, pulled the drive shaft to check and replace the U joints. They seemed ok but I changed them any way. Had to use the blue wrench on the front one as it refused to be coaxed out. I now believe the vibration has gotten worse. I guess Ill take to a dealer for a $$$$loss if you know what I mean. I dont have alot of confidence with the local dealer. Service writers are girls and the parts depart. are girls. Dont get me wrong I like Girls fine just seems that the are out of their element. The frame shop cost me $1800 on the last vibrating ford van with no results. It might be cheeper to trade it to a chevy or gmc.
66000 miles the mount will be examened, along with much more on Monday. Ill keep you posted. As to the # of gals doing the wrenchin, I ask that question, I think I made the service advisor-is angry. She wouldn't say.
had it to a very highly recomended shop past 2 days he is going to find a guy he knows with the same style van and put that driveshaft in mine and see what happens. it gets worse every time I drive it. Im wondering about front brake calipers? Could this be the cause?
this vibration now prevents me from going over 45mph. whatever it is, I think its going to show me prety soon, like the one I discribed in my previous thread.
Put it up on jack stands and the run it up and watch the drive shaft and rear wheels. If you do not see any thing wrong then it is in the front end. You should be able to see if a wheel or the shaft is doing it.
the shaft has a small up and down motion. Being of aluminum I figure once it goes out of true the fact that you drive the van makes it worse. going to have a steel on built on thursday.
The driveline shop said the drive shaft was out 1/4" at the front and hear and there all the way along the shaft there were out of line problems. They built a new steel shaft for me. $220 not bad at all for the price. They also said the one of the new joints I had installed had a needle bearing crushed. That explains why it was worse after replacing the u joints. Now Im back to square one, a vibration from 45 to 65 just like before, just like my past 2 other 250s. Im gettin rid of it. Im looking for an extended gmc cargo van 2500. sad part is I like the ford better, but they cant get this to stop. The service dept. is unaware of any past problems with vibrations. say what?
Don't you just hate it when fixing obviously bad components doesn't solve your problem? IMO your complaints about 3 different "250s" are unusual. Most of these trucks roll smooth even after they've been used & abused for a very long time.

I'd go right back to the "driveline shop" & try to resolve the issue. If you had a bent drive shaft & "needle bearing crushed" chances are good that another defect remains to be recognized. Could be as simple as tire/wheel problem or ice/mud inside a wheel. Check tires for run out/belt issues. Moving to "gmc" ain't a solution.
Talked to those guys today, I will be taking it back for more experiments after the new year. They and I are thinking pinion angle. We will try a little of this and that but.... Im, at the same time looking for another truck. Another thing Im not to pleased with about this van is the engine the Triton V8. It has a quick take off and run up but seems to lack the pulling power I will need to get over the TN mountains towing a load. The new drive shaft just put me back where I started. 40 and beyond vibration just as it was, just as were the others.
it has been raining and melting with lots of fog hear. everything is saturated and getting wet. I did notice however, the vibration had decreased somewhat. Not gone away but enough where it wasn't as bad of an annoyance. A little dryer today and it is back full strength. any thoughts>>>>
My problems showed up when I ran it up to speed on jackstands,
it was the output flange bushing of the tranny , probably caused by the bad tranny mount I also found. $18 in parts , thats AFTER changing the universal joints and chasing wild leads.
If you suspect the pinion angle, is it possible to change that angle temporarily by weighing the rear axle down, maybe a few hundred pounds in the back of the van.
Im at the end of the experimentation. After building a new drive shaft, putting the axle on supports and running it through the gears without wheels, drums etc. still vibrating. John the owner of the truck repair facility hear is at the " its got to be in the rear end" point. My 1996 e250 vibration was suppose to be the rear end. The Trans and gear shop changed the gears and bearings, no difference. So Im not going there again. I guess Im not suppose to drive Fords any more. To bad too, I like they way it looks and handles. Ive been a dedicated Ford Man right along overlooking and contending with the different problems I have encountered But this is the end.
