I'm looking at replacing my starter with "Higher Torque" starter from DB Electrical off of Ebay. It was recommended to me from a memeber of this board, but I wanted to know if anyone else was using one of these. Also, how hard is it to replace the starter on these trucks? (2000 F250)
Not sure what to tell you on the high torque starters...i've heard a lot about them but I just changed my starter out and decided to go with standard Motorcraft.
The starter's on these aren't hard. It's located right next to the oil pan on the starboard side. It's a standard three big bolts, battery connection and live wire which is a really tiny 8 MM I believe. The big bolts are 18MM. Just make sure you disconnect your batteries before pulling out the old starter unless you like the smell of burning human hair.
The only real trouble I had was getting up in there to get the top bolt out..and you may need an open-ended 18MM. My truck is lifted and I had to squeeze myself in between the tire, leaf spring and frame sitting on my butt inside the wheel well to get the leverage I needed...but I do have short arms and had to use my 18MM socket so it wasn't an easy job trying to do it lying on my back.
The reason I was asking about the price is because the "higher torque" starter I found online is $130 + shipping. If I have it over-nighted, I'll pay about the same price as I would buying a motorcraft.
Can you send me the link or more info. on that hi-torque starter? I would like that for mine. Please let me know if you get it and how it performs. Thanks
if your truck is lifted.....the hardest part of the removal/install is finding the right position to sit up....and fish your wrench around finding the top bolt to remove. It was very uncomfortable for me.....but the starter install/removal part is EASY. Just unhook battery...and there's 3 bolts.
It say's it'll replace the 3 bolt starter...but I don't buy it it doesn't even look like it will fit. Looks like it's an ambulance package starter or something.
i got one of those ebay jobs, and its great!!!!!!, it man handles the motor. belive me, thats the same guy i got it from ,DBelectrical, fast shipping too. love it, the only problem i had was the maion power wire has 90* bend in it and i had to make it straight for this one to fit, which was no problem.
Pete's the guy who told me about this starter. (Thanks for posting Pete, I couldn't remember who turned me on to this deal) How long have you had this starter?
