like in TH mode, if i hit a hill will it downshift while it will stay in OD with TH off?
I know you don't want to hear an answer like this, but it depends on the size of hill. Hit a big enough hill and it will pop out of OD, I wouldn't say it does it easier though.

You can, but you really have to watch your turning radius, that is going to be your biggest concern. Sometimes I have to jackknife my trailer to get into a spot and it's harder to do so with a shortbed then a long bed.

It sounds like the laws are the same down here as well. You have to have your tag upgraded to pull heavier loads.

Here all the cops have to do is take a look at your tags(it says the weight that your allowed to haul, or tagged to haul) and look at the weight limit on the trailer, if the weight limit on the trailer is greater then what your tagged to haul they can cite you. Mind you this is sticker weight of the trailer, not actual weight, if you want to cover yourself there then you have to go to scales and get your weight there and that will forgo the ticket, otherwise that's how they do it. Places like Ohio I have heard are very bad about that.

Last time I checked I was not overloaded pulling a trailer with a 20k gvw.

Not too smart in my opinion.

Depends on what type of gooseneck your talking about, if it's a flatbed then you should be alright, if it's something that has more of a neck on it(like a horse trailer or any type of enclosed trailer) then that's where you might have a problem with turning. I only have a pic of one of my horse trailers on here and that one is actually hooked up to my tractor(I had my truck hooked up to the trailer this morning, I should have taking it then).

edit: I mispoke, I looked at my gallery again and I do have a pic of my truck hooked up to the flatbed and that one clearly has enough room for turning with a shortbed, but I believe you would still have a chance of having a problem with something like a horse trailer or one that is enclosed.

towing some goosenecks w/ a shortbed can be difficult. Like tex said, the enclosed ones are tough. All flats and most livestock trailers are ok. If you dont already have a gooseneck hitch installed, i strongly recommend b&w's hideaway hitch. Because of its versatility, i was able to get an extender so the enclosed car trailer wouldnt smack by truck and i was able to run the adaptable 5th wheel hitch. They make a great product. But to answer your question, it can be done. You just have to pay attention a little more with trailers that have material on the necks

That's the same company that made mine and it is one that I would recommend, on my last truck I had a hideaway hitch as well, but it was a little more cumbersome to flip it up or flip it down depending on rather or not I needed it and I'm always switching it up and down so not having it cumbersome is a real benefit.
