I was wondering how much Horse Power will I lose if I put a A/C system in my 1989 F-150 with a 300 6 cylinder? If you can tell that would be great. I thinking about getting a A/C unit out of a newer truck.
I have a 300 and I can tell when the comp. kicks on. When I am hauling my boat, I can't haul boat, pull hill, and run air all at the same time.
In my opinion though, it is well worth any loss of power you may encounter just to be cool. But that depends on where you live. I live in southern Tn. where the temps will get into the upper 90's to low 100's with heat indexes in ecxess of 115 deg.
Ok here goes! I installed the orginal AC system in my F150 4.9L. I contacted Jobrite.com for the dash vents, box underdash, box under hood, vac controls and lines. Looks orginal. Cost was $150.00. I purchased new evap/dryer/condencer/compressor( with eng brackets) and lines, cost was $400. You can by aftermarket kits that work well for about $750. The only problem with the kits are they are not orginal and some hang under dash or you have to cut holes in you dash.I took a lot of research and I am glad I went the way I did. I owe all of my sucess to the Tech's on www.aircondition.com and Warren at ACsource.com. Contact them they will help you. Art
