I'm pretty sure the starter on the ol' 95 (see sig) is on it's way out. In fact it's been walking away since I got it (haha.) I bought a new battery and she still cranks pretty hard. What is my best bet for a GOOD new starter, or a reman? I've seen them on EBAY for like $100 and that scares me a bit. Any suggestions?
Get a reman from a local dealer that will give you a "warranty".
If the Ebay one is junk, it might be awhile before you get your money or your part back.
If you have big bucks go to the dealer. 300+ I bet.
Sometimes all they need are brushes and they are good to go. I'm not sure if the solenoids are serviceable or not on these but some can be rebuilt. It will save you some $$ if you have the know how to repair them.
We have a local repair shop here that sells the rebuild kits for many starters and alternators. As long as the windings are good. i.e. Armature, field. I think your starter may have a permanent magnet field.
I know of a fella who rebuilds them for about 20 bucks. It's just a matter of finding another ride until he gets it done. Maybe I'll see about borrowing my buddy's Jeep.
The Solenoid on it is actually brand new. I had to buy a new one because the terminal stud broke off when I rebuilt the engine. Good thinking! I'm sure the brushes are just worn out.
