general question

Hey, does anybody know anything about the Mercury Villager, I know it is a Nissan Quest based truck. I've got a neighbor who has no brake lights and when I changed the bulbs out they still didn't work. I checked the fuses and they where all good. My thinking is it's something in the wiring is messed up, but I'm hoping it's something a little easier than that to fix. Any help would be appreciated, a lady owns it and her husband didn't even know how to change the bulbs.

when you checked the fuses did you use a power probe? or did you actually take them out and look at them? does the van have taillights still? or directionals?

Yeah, I took them out and looked at them, I didn't use my test light though. Wished I'd thought of that, guess that's why I have ya'll to CYMA. The taillights do work as well as the directionals, so I'm just stumped as to what it could be. Damn Nissans, they don't like making it easy do they. I appreciate the comeback

well im working on getting you a wiring diagram but this might help. here is how to adjust the brake light switch on the brake pedal lever.

<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="5" width="90%"><tbody><tr><td align="center" bgcolor="#336699">Adjustments</td> </tr> <tr><td align="right">Notes</td> </tr> </tbody></table>
  1. Check the brake pedal free height.
  2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
******** language="JavaScript"> <!-- var HIGHNONE = ''; var LOWNONE = ''; // --> *********> ******** language="JavaScript"> <!-- var CAPTION86286873 = ""; // --> *********> <table align="center" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="90%"> <tbody><tr><td><table border="1" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="320"> <tbody><tr><td></td> </tr> </tbody></table> </td> </tr> <tr><td>******** language="JavaScript"> <!-- var HIGHNONE = ''; var CAPTION86286873 = ""; // --> *********> <table align="left" border="0" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="0" width="320"> <tbody><tr><td><form action="javascript<b></b>:Zoom('/alldata/PRO~V72623762~C32846~R0~OB0~P2R0H~N/0/70910848/78036641/78036642/78036644/34853741/34867926/34868156/34868167/80949257/86286873', 1, 480, 306, 'ZoomWin', CAPTION86286873, 'NONE', HIGHNONE);" method="post"> <input value="Zoom" type="submit"></form> </td> <td><form action="javascript<b></b>:SizedForPrint('/alldata/PRO~V72623762~C32846~R0~OB0~P2R0X~N/0/70910848/78036641/78036642/78036644/34853741/34867926/34868156/34868167/80949257/86286873', 1, 480, 306, 'ZoomWin', CAPTION86286873, 'NONE', HIGHNONE);" method="post"> <input value="Sized for Print" type="submit"></form> </td> </tr> </tbody></table> </td> </tr> </tbody></table>

  1. Adjust the Brake Pedal Position (BPP) switch.
<table border="0" cellpadding="1" cellspacing="10"> <tbody><tr><td valign="top">1</td> <td valign="top">Disconnect the electrical connector.</td> </tr> <tr><td valign="top">2</td> <td valign="top">Loosen the lock nut.</td> </tr> <tr><td valign="top">3</td> <td valign="top">Adjust the BPP switch.</td> </tr> </tbody></table> Note: The air gap adjustment is 0.3-1.0 mm (0.012-0.039 in).

******** language="JavaScript"> <!-- var HIGHNONE = ''; var LOWNONE = ''; // --> *********> ******** language="JavaScript"> <!-- var CAPTION86286874 = ""; // --> *********> <table align="center" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="90%"> <tbody><tr><td><table border="1" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="277"> <tbody><tr><td></td> </tr> </tbody></table> </td> </tr> <tr><td>******** language="JavaScript"> <!-- var HIGHNONE = ''; var CAPTION86286874 = ""; // --> *********> <table align="left" border="0" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="0" width="277"> <tbody><tr><td><form action="javascript<b></b>:Zoom('/alldata/PRO~V72623762~C32846~R0~OB0~P2R0H~N/0/70910848/78036641/78036642/78036644/34853741/34867926/34868156/34868167/80949257/86286874', 1, 416, 302, 'ZoomWin', CAPTION86286874, 'NONE', HIGHNONE);" method="post"> <input value="Zoom" type="submit"></form> </td> <td><form action="javascript<b></b>:SizedForPrint('/alldata/PRO~V72623762~C32846~R0~OB0~P2R0X~N/0/70910848/78036641/78036642/78036644/34853741/34867926/34868156/34868167/80949257/86286874', 1, 416, 302, 'ZoomWin', CAPTION86286874, 'NONE', HIGHNONE);" method="post"> <input value="Sized for Print" type="submit"></form> </td> </tr> </tbody></table> </td> </tr> </tbody></table>

  1. Tighten the lock nut.
    Reconnect the battery ground cable. NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles)

    I owned a Villager since 1993 when they first came out.

    I had trouble with the actual bulb socket that the bulbs plug into.

    I can't remember the exact fault but I being in electronics was able to modify and fix it.

    Are you SURE the switch is 'working' and letting the juice thru it?? Specially IF both are same thing!! OR juice TO the switch even!! THATS where I would look first,,,maybe the wire fell off or got bumped somehow(connection) at least put some dielectric grease on them to be sure contact is good AFTER positive juice check!! If both are hot and it runs THRU the switch,,,jump the switch and see!! Otherwise check grounds!! and grease the sockets!!
