Yeah, lets just drop milage 50% from 18 to 12 MPG. I'd seriously want to look the reduction in pollution, since refineries burn tons of uneeded bad oil, I bet if anything, the over all pollution is going to go up with the refineries in over drive.

What gives? I've read some are getting 500 miles/tank? Is this so? I don't know, but good for them and sucks for me. Thanks. Just needed to vent a little.
08350 I own a F-450 and doesn't do well on mpg's so decieded to not complane about it and just drive it.I bought for the power and pulling of my travel trailer. I have been geting about 11.5mpgs on the highway. That is pretty good for as big of sucker I got.

I have noticed that I get better gas mileage from Shell also..............Never really figured it, but there is definately an increase, especially driving for long distances without stops.

6.4 people, when their mileage is worse than the truck they used to have, burning the fuel you can no longer get, they just blame the DPF and the regenerations.
The 6.0 and 7.3 people, when their mileage drops, just blame the new fuel.

08350, I think that there is something wrong with your truck. With 3.73's in the back, and a light footed driving style on the highway, you should be getting better mileage than that.

I'm not pleased with the 12 mpg empty / 8mpg towing that I get out of my 450, but it's got 4.88's in the back so it's understandable. With 3.73's, you should be taching around 2K at 65mph and getting 15 - 16 mpg (empty) or better.

Hey everyone thanks for the responses here! Just to clarify, I wasn't complaining about mileage, just venting a little Anyways...my confusion was how some get 500 miles out of one tank of fuel, while others like myself get 250-300. Whatever the case may be, I was just wondering, thats all. But on a different note, I have to say that this thing can plow snow like a motherf****r! Ten plus inches yesterday followed by sleet and rain. I have a stainless V plow and put a mountain in front wet heavy snow infront of it and she will just push like a freight train! This is one of the biggest differences with the diesel than with my 03 v-10. Also, truck probably ran for about 12 straight hours yesterday, some idle, some driving, mostly plowing. I only used half a tank of fuel, granted i only drove a total of 80 miles according to the trip computer, but my v-10 would have sucked down at least one full tank and not have been able to push those piles back like this sucker!

That would be called torque, and that’s what makes the world go round.

Hey guys, admittedly i dont know much about the DPF and Regan features other then their function. why exactly does the DPF bring down the MPG so badly? Has anyone come up with a mod to hack off that damn thing and flash the computer so the truck still drives. (i know, ALOT easier said then done)

There is a company called Kem performance that has the dpf delete tune out.
I personaly am waiting for the tune to come from SCT or Spartan diesel. The dpf delete is realitively easy, its the retuneing so you dont lose HP from removing the DPF thats taking the time for the tuners to overcome.

Strange you say that, as I filled up with Valero just east of Little Rock Monday and my PSD '08 had a convulsion for a little bit, but cleared. Now it seems to be regenning wildly. This is the first issue I've had with it. 4000 miles. Job #1 truck.

We have this big F-350 because the spec's said it was the best truck to pull our 13K 5th wheel all over the country. The cummings and the durimax both get better MPG and if that is what you buy a truck for..you got the wrong truck with a Ford. We looked at all of the big three and the F-350 best met our over all needs. If MPG was our only concern we would be driving a Dodge with a Cummings. With all due respect folks.. If your concern was MPG and you did your homework and you purchased a Ford Powerstroke...well..I don't know what to tell you. Remember the Ford is the heavest truck with the smallest diesel motor..it does good considering.

i don't know about the psd-but with the cummins- mileage improves as the engine is broken in. which could be up to 20,000 miles on the cummins- depending on how hard the engine is worked.

The dodge should get better mileage. Six cylinder versus eight. Basic physics. As far as this thread is concerned, the motor/tranny combo on the chevy and dodge are good. If Ford could figure out a better automatic tranny I think that would solve their issue. I am sorry I went with an automatic. My manual transmission was better for towing and got better mileage. Again physics though, you lose hp and waste gas on the spool up on the converter.
