The 300 will pull that 14 foot boat without any problem. It'll do the job, it just won't do it fast.

It's a high torque low-reving engine.

My '95 F150 supercab with 300 I6 fuel injected pulls a 2000 lb trailer with a 3.08 rear end. I pulled the trailer throught the Rocky Mountains, including Trail Ridge Road over 12,000 ft elevation in Rocky Mountain National Park. I would think your 14-foot boat would not weigh any more and probably weighs less. If fact, my wifes 3.0 liter Aerostar (with 3.73 rear) has pulled the 2000 lb trailer, but was challenged at highway speed because of wind resistance, which you wouldn't have with a boat! The fuel injected 300s of the 90's (actually began around '88) have about 20 more ft lbs torque and about 20 more horsepower than the carburated earlier models.

I have an 88 300 engine and I use it to pull my 20 ft bass boat. about 2500lbs. or better. It has a 355 rear end in it and it pulls it well, even through the hills of Tennessee

The 300 has quite a long stoke length. This fact is why some FORD enthusiasts refer to the 300 as a "torque monster." 300's have been used for some time in industrial / agricultural applications. The trade off is that the 300 is poor at accelerating the crank shaft quickly. This results is poor acceleration in comparison to a 390 or 360. I don't think it takes long to figure the mileage comparisons and trade offs. I'd definetly recommend using a rear greater than 3 for towing to help performance and the life of the tranny.

I've got a 94' with 31 BFGs and 4.10s and my baby pulled a F350 duallie and maintained a speed of 60mph; over 60 miles and uphill throughout the whole trip (from Albuquerque, NM to Santa Fe, NM). I wouldn't do this to often as the M5OD(manual tranny) was rather warm! If I had the ZF-5 speed, man would my truck hauling anything.

The 300 will do you fine. I had a 94 F150 that hauled my 18 foot Hewescraft all over Alaska. It was a heavy load with a 85 hp outboard and usually a fairly full pickup load. Kinda Slow up the mountains but reliable and tough as a rock. My son in law still drives it every day and I had over 146,000 miles on it when I gave it to him. Stock 6. Great Great Motor.

The 300 I-6 is a beautiful engine. I have been driving them for 24 years and hope to until I die. But I usually drove them unloaded. My finest moments in pickup-truckin were haulin that 2000 lb trailer through the rockies. If felt so good to have that engine finally working like it was meant to. Nothing like pullin a 7 percent grade downshifted and turning some 3000 or so RPMs. One of the most wonderful feelings in the world! (OK I know. I'm getting carried away. I'll shut up already.)
