I don't know if this is a common problem or not as this is my first winter with the truck. When I first start up and go to reverse out of my driveway, it's almost like there is something blocking the wheels. I have to give it quite a bit more pedal than normal just to get it to move. It only seems to do it in reverse.... clears up when I put it in drive to go down the road.
Anyone else have this problem or know what may be causing it?
Where do you live? In the cold weather we have here, its normal for there to be a little delay when you put it in gear for the first time. The fluid is cold and doesnt flow as nice. My 88 used to do it and got worse if the fluid was low. I'd have to rev it once then shift gears before it would move.
I had a similar problem after installing a valve body, cleared up once fixed.
Does the problem persist after the truck warms up?
It get pretty cold here and I don't have that problem... the only slow shifting is when it's really cold (below -20C) and affects forward and reverse.
It probably is related to the colder temps lately.... just seems to be a lot of slip before things get moving. Once it's warmed up its fine...actually, once I put it from reverse to drive it is usually better. Fluid has probably been moved around enough by then.
Just had the tranny flushed and filled a month ago so it's not low or dirty fluid. I may end up getting a pan heater for both the engine and the tranny like I have on the Mercedes. I find them much better at protecting in extreme cold as it heats the oil from the bottom up. Would probably cure the romps as well.... well, assuming its the oil.... hahaha
