Diesel swaps....?
I had posted a thread in the 67-72 forum about a diesel swap in the 68 that I have. There were interesting responces( I expected them) but none the less it brought me to this forum. Tigerdan had said that some of you gearheads have already done the deed and would have some information. Preferably online stores that would sell the motor mounts and minor stuff. Or whatever is available for sale. I am looking to do the most basic swap and hopefully leave out the headache that is otherwise known as a computer in a truck. So there are plenty of questions besides the already mentioned. And here are a few.
1) which diesel does all who have them prefer? ( what size and brand)
2) Any good books on the subject or magazines?
and the big question is 3) where can I get Information on what parts bolt up and what don't.
I expect the job will take some time and custom fab work, and of course everyones favorite, money
Thanks for your input

I'd say for the best overall package, the Cummins 4BT(3.9) would have it. It'll leave you plenty of room under the hood, get about 30 mpg, and possibilities of decent power. It can bolt up to GM, Mopar, Ford, or SAE bellhousings. They are plentiful on ebay for around 1500. Another possibility is to get a 6.9 or 7.3IDI from a newer F250/350. Depending on your plans, but if you want to build a powerhouse, a Cummins 6BT(94-98 Dodge pickup version), or International DT360; but that's more firewall fabbing. Either way, there's lots of variables like gearing and transmissions. If you use the 4BT, the guys at Destroked.com has the best trans adapters and mounts, and the "what fits". There has been a couple write ups in Diesel Power Magazine. I havent read your thread yet...I may add more.

that should give a little insight and motivation. You can spend hours on just that site learning about 4BT's and different options & trucks they are going in. It's a little newer F150, but will be really close. Bread vans & Frito-Lay style vans are where you find em. Sometimes you can get the whole van for 2500. Then, after it's done, you chop up the (aluminum) body panels & sell for scrap for a pretty good penny.
Has a manual tranny in it, assume a 5 speed with OD? And dual turbo's.

Note to others: this is nowhere near practical as a diesel swap.
