P0304 misfire code - AGAIN! Need help...

When the CEL indicator came up on my '98 Expy (EB 5.4L), I changed the spark plugs, fuel injectors, air and oil filters and the light went away and it seemed OK when I drove locally except for the slight "shuddering" (shaking) every once in awhile. I took it on the highway and drove between 50-60 MPH, when it shuddered alot and the CEL indicator blinked several times, went away when I reduced speed, and then came back on and stayed on. Driving faster than 30-35 MPH causes it to shudder and when I give it gas it hesitates slightly. Sometimes when I take it out of Park, it will shut off if I don't step on the gas right away. I just purchased an Innova Equus 3130 scanner and I'm not familiar with all of its features, but the P0304 is a constant - it remains lit even after I clear it from memory. Any ideas/help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance.

FYI - all the ignition coils look OK - no exposed/chafed wires, etc - same for the injectors. No water, coolant, etc. around the boots.

May the ignition coil be a problem? I didn't swap it to check - that's my next step. I found them at Drivewire for $55 each - is this about right? The Visteon version in other places sells for $64. Any difference?
Sorry about all the questions. This is driving me nuts...

Try and swap out the COP for #4 cylinder with #1 COP and see if the code changes to P0301. If it does then your coil is the problem.

If it is the COP then you could also trade out the boots to see if the code sets for whatever cylinder your swap the old boot to. I believe you can now buy just the boot at some of the car parts stores for I think less then $10.00. Mine turned out to be just the boot.

I've also seen whole sets of 8ea. COP on EBAY for aprox $80.00. You might check there before buying.

Did you use Motorcraft or Autolite plugs?
I chased misses using 2 sets of Bosch plugs. Put Motorcraft back in and all is well.

Thanks for the updates. I swapped the #4 and #1 coil packs today, drove around the neighborhood and did not get a CEL or DTC on the scanner. I have to take it out on the highway and see if I get any errors. I'll do that tomorrow and let you know.

I put in new Bosch Platinum +4 plugs and they seem to work great - turn on the key and it starts right away.
These things (coils) are super cheap on eBay (thanks for the tip) - I can buy a whole set of 8 for less than what it would cost me to buy 2 of them at an Auto Parts store. Anyone know whether the quality is OK? Some have either a 1 or 2 year warranty.
