Oil Change Interval

My 95 F-350 powerstroke hasn't seen much use over the past year. I changed the oil and filter last year on Nov, 2006 with Rotella 15w40 and only put about 1,000 miles on it since. Service manual says to do it every 3,000 miles but makes no mention to a time limitation. I don't want to change the oil if I don't have to. Anyone know if this could be a problem?

By the way, I give it a good run once or twice a week just so it doesn't just sit there. Thanks.

All the big jiffy lubes and other oil change places say 3k or 3 months. I usually run mine 5k before the 3 months. I would say yes you need to change the oil and filter. Moisture and whatever else can build up in there and break down the oil. Your injectors and many other expensive parts require good oil so they dont wear out prematurely. Oil-cheap, motor-not cheap

I would change it after a year unless your mileage goes first.

While I agree with your post I would sure stay away from Jiffy lubes and other like them. They will hire anyone that breathes and most are clueless and don't give a flip about your car/truck.

Most call me crazy, but I go between 7.5k-10k on an oil change. in your case, i would do it atleast once a year.

don't trust a jiffy lube yes... but i work at a firestone place (we sell the tires so we have a big banner up over the garages) and we do pretty much anything to a car... and EVERYONE knows what they're doing... the only mistakes people make sometimes are forgetting about checking for the old oil filter gasket and putting on a double gasket and then when you start up the car you hear splashing lol that's when you shut off the car and realize "crap..."

To be honest with you guys this truck has had every single oil change in a jiffy lube for the past 11 years. I am more than able to do it myself but I would spend half a day doing what they do in 20-30 minutes. They charge me about $60-65. The oil alone is 30 something and 10 for a filter. Of course I always check fluid levels when they are done and once every time I fill up.
