wheel information

I'm looking around for some tires and wheels for my 68 f-100 and I'm getting a lot of different information. It sounds like Ford changed wheel sizes a lot over the years and I don't want to get into one of these deals where the seller says sure they will fit and when I get them home, they won't. Right now it has the original 15 in wheels.

Can anyone tell me the size required and what years wheels will fit on this truck?

Also, I understand that there is some way I can get the VIN code to get some idea as to the factory equipment. Can anyone help me with that? The VIN is F10YKD27365.

One last thing. I've been looking for some side view mirrors, like the originals, small car type mirrors. All I can find are the $9.99 plastic junk and the $50.00 way to expensive varity. Can anyone steer me to some vendor in the middle?

Thanks again.

br, The most common 15" half ton wheel has a 5 on 5.5" bolt pattern. This wheel was used from 1957-1996. 1980-1983 F100 only used a 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern.

hub cap lips (inners & outies) to custom styles passed through this time frame, so you have some choices. It's the 5 on 5.5" bolt pattern that to pass the sniff test.

I always like to caution, don't lay your money down without a test fit first.

F10 = F100 2WD

Y = 360 2V

K = Kansas City Assembly Plant

D27365 = 1968

Beginning in 1967, Ford trucks came with a left door outside mirror that was similar (or the same in some cases) to the full sized Ford passenger car mirror as standard equipment. There's several different head types. One has a plain head and in 1968, a hooded mirror was also available. Besides the left, there was a matching right side optional. A left remote control mirror were also available as an option.

I'd hate to tell you how many of these were thrown away over the years. The mirrors weren't installed till the truck reached the dealership. If the customer wanted western type swing lock mirrors, the plain jane mirror ended up in the dealers misc. junk pile. Suggestion, have a long time dealer in your area? You might still find a few of these mirrors left over.

All these mirrors were used 1967/72.

C7AZ-17682-G .. L/H Mirror-plain head (cars & trucks)

C8AZ-17682-B .. L/H Mirror-hooded head (cars & trucks)

C8TZ-17682-B or D .. L/H Mirror-hooded head (trucks only-the mirror head is larger than the above mirrors)

C9TZ-17682-A .. L/H REMOTE Control Mirror (trucks only)

C7AZ-17696-F .. Right or Left Mirror (cars & trucks-the most popular mirror used) Marked: C7AB-17682-B or C

C8AZ-17696-A .. R/H Companion Mirror for Left Remote Mirror (cars & trucks)

D3TZ-17696-L .. R/H Companion Mirror-plain head (trucks only)
