if that works it will look cool but it will raise questions some day when you go to sell it.

That's crap and I would never accept it. That would be my first clue to find another shop.

Unless you just happen to want that style. You might agree to allow that, but only if they threw in the new step. If that's something you would want.

As far as I know there is no difference in the beds between the 99-07 trucks and the 08. The taillights and tailgate are slightly different. If he wants to use a 08 bed with 99-07 lights and tailgate let him. If he wants to use an 08 tailgate you might want to use 08 tailights as the 08 tailgate leaves a small gap when put next to 99-07 tailights (there are threads here about installing an 08 tailgate on earlier trucks that will show this, it usually isn't a bog concern but I wanted you to know about it).

I'd accept just for the tailgate and like bpounds said it would have to have the step too.

Lets see? A new, probably take-off 08 bed, or a used 99,00,01,02,03,04,05,06 or 07 bed that has been USED. The way I see it, your getting an upgrade. I have been trying for months to get an 08 tailgate.

What is the year and stats on your truck?

Bill,
your assumption that the shop is not quallity is miss guided. They probably think they are doing him a favor. At least that is what I would think. JMO

Its probably the only bed that the shop can get as new/used like a take off. Most complete used beds are take-offs. Blame your insurance company and your policy for requiring the shop to look for used parts! Not the shop.

Most take off beds do not have the step as an option, when ordering a work truck, why pay for the option, just to remove it.

I just got an 08 box for my 02. havent painted and installed it yet. I looked for used boxes, but most didnt include tailgates and where less than perfect. The one I got is a new takeoff doesnt even have a scratch in the bed. Body shop told me the only issue might be with the plugs on the wiring, but we havent even looked at it yet.

No tailgate step like said why would you order it to take it off. Doesnt matter, I am too hard on tailgates. Just something else to bend up.

Sounds like you are right. If they really are the same then why not use it. Just make sure they get the lights done correctly. Personally I would not want a mis-matched tailgate. But then I don't like the embossing in the tailgate either. It would also complicate a topper order for the current or future owner.
