Hey everybody! I've got an older, I believe, Western plow setup I'm trying to get working. I say Western because it's red and I can't find a company name on it. Anyhoo, it's a cable controlled motor and I was wondering if, at some point, it's supposed to shut off so it doesn't over heat when in use.
I was trying to adjust the cables right tonight but was having some trouble and it kept running and I ended up unhooking it when the little trails of smoke started coming out of it:-) It was quite aggravating. LOL
I wasn't sure if it's supposed to shut off or go into a bypass mode or something when it's at full float or if there's something wrong with it. The only other connections running to it besides the control cables are the pos. & neg. wires. I didn't really want to keep smoking it to find out. I appreciate any help or suggestions! Take it easy all and have a very Merry Christmas!
The most likely cause of the run on motor is the controller was not centered in the box.
This would continue to supply ground to the solenoid causing the motor to keep running.
If you really want to see some real powerful units,,, Do a search for V8 Powered snowblowers! BTW,,, Don't shoot me for putting a CHEBY unit on here! AND,,, Theres a Hemi powered 1 too.
Thanks for all the help and suggestions guys! Again, I appreciate all the input and the s/blower with the stacks is awesome! I learned alot from reading that mechanics guide and now I know what's wrong so, at some point, I have to get back to fixing it.
With my luck I'm going to end up running around in the dark with snow falling around me getting it going:-)
