Airbag switch

I'm very close to buying a 2002 Supercrew SLT with a 5.4. The problem is, I just realized there is no airbag switch (according to the liturature.) Does anyone know if there is a way to disable the passenger airbag on this truck? It's enough of a problem that I will have to consider getting something else instead if I can't.
Thanks in advance,
Alan

Alan, the airbags are there for your protection. If you are thinking of disabling them for your children, then your children should be in the back seat. They don't put air bag disabling switches in 4 door sedans so that people won't be able to disable this valuable feature.

Airbag switch

I know it may sound like I'm a bad parent, but I have three young children. If my wife wants to take them and their cousin somewhere, they won't be able to ride in the truck. I can't believe they'd be safer in a minivan than they would be in this truck, even without the airbag activated. It's just a consideration. I really love the Super Crew. Maybe I'll just have to limit how many kids can ride and go for it.

p.s. I'm not against airbags, but shouldn't people have a choice. (I know,I shouldn't have gotten started on that.)

I didn't mean to suggest that you are a bad parent. If you didn't care about your kids you wouldn't be asking these kinds of questions. My point was, if everyone could disable the airbags, a lot of them wouldn't be used. You raise a good point about having 4 kids in the truck at one time. I must admit, I don't have an answer for that one. Maybe someone else knows how to disable the front airbag on the passenger side and will help you out. I love my Screw and you will too!!

Airbag switch

I am a firm believer in using the airbags also, but occasionally I will let my 4 yr old ride in the front if I am running down the street to the grocery store. The first time I let her in the front, I looked for the switch to disable the bag and found to my chargrine that there was not one. If you read the manual (as I did to disable it--there is no way), it recommended no children in the front BUT if a child does ride in the front, move the seat to the most rearward position and make sure they sit back against the seat (this is how adults should also ride--much safer). The airbag is really only dangerous if you are extremely close to it, ie. a child leaning up against the dash or in a rear facing seat. Fully inflated, the bag will not completely flush up against the seat. But the bottom line is that you still have to make the decision that makes you most comfortable.

Thanks for that info from the owners manual. At least they took it into consideration. I'll have to think about it.
I plan to order my Supercrew this week if all goes well.
