interior light problem

interior light problem
I have a 2005 F-150 which has given me no problems. However, lately the passenger door, when opened, does not activate the interior dome light. Does not happen all the time. I cannot find where the switch is in the door frame, and would appreciate your help. Thanks!

I don't think the switch is the door frame, but I'd have to dig out the manual to check for sure. It's likely a little pin switch that is inside the door on the latch mechanism and gets actuated by some part of the latch itself.
They must have reversed how the switch operates. The switches on my '95 Ranger get sticky and stuck on after the door is closed, not the other way 'round like you are seeing. That or you have a wiring problem.

if the vehicle is running when you open the door the light may or may not come on. i have seen this in other ford products too and feel that it is not a defect but a glitch in the body computer design. fiy the door switch is built into the door latch inside the door. it is not accessable without pulling the door panel.

Solved the problem! The switch is located in the latch itself, and I sprayed it well with silicone, then opened and closed the door several times. Works like a champ now! I guess the switch may stick due to the fact that my passenger door is not used too much; spraying it with the silicone spray solved the problem. Thanks!
