Late this afternoon a big truck slung rock on windshield,[sickening] already cracked, what do I need to know before getting it replaced. And does the new windshield need to come from Ford. 07 150. THANKS
It really depends on your insurance carrier... Assuming you have full comp- it shouldnt be a problem. I would just document any existing damage around the windshield and the areas the glass-tech will be near (Hood, side doors, wipers etc...) it will help to simplify things if you see something "off" when you get the truck back.
I had mine replaced about 4-6months ago. My insurance company let me have the Original "Carlite" OEM glass w/the pixelated screened "F-150" logo. Not to mention pick my glass carrier-which was thier Preferred provider also- Safelite.
On Edit: to help w/a Possible/example time-frame.. I called my Insurance Co. on a Sunday evening- Scheduled an appt. for 3:30p.m the following Monday(after work) So, Safelite had a few of the OEM windshields already there.

Good info. I have a crack across the entire front of mine as well. I hate to put a new one on there being winter with the sand and rocks flying. If ins. covers it, I'm in. I will have to call tomorrow.
Ok Seen this before. I
have been in the W/S business for over 20 years and I will tell you this "matter a factly".
As with any auto repair, if you have experience with someone that you trust go back to them.
When you contact your ins. carrier they will recommend usually a couple of shops(be leary if they only give you one option). If they do not recommend someone you are comfortable with choose your own. Regardless what they tell you, you can take it anywhere and it won't cost you anymore because "they are not in or network" famous coersion tactict of some companies.
Based on my experience and seeing others work I would find a local shop with a good reputation because most likely they will care about you and your vehicle thus putting more pride in the work. Some of the nationwide chains seem to be more concerned with how many replacements their technicians can complete in a day. ( they like to leave screws out that are a little more difficult to get to among other things to save time, You figure it out) I will not mention any names here but I will say someone did in an earlier post.
Currently Carlite (oe Ford glass) is the only manu. with the F-150 logo. There are others out there but they will not have this logo. Requesting a Carlite will not cost you more money(another scare tactic to save them money).
Let me say that not all ins. carrier act this way neither do all glass co but there are some out there. Bottom line is this, it's your vehicle, you are in control of this transaction even though your ins. co is paying for it.
And if you don't have the coverage, be aware of the lowest price when shopping.
I need to get mine replaced also. So Carlite should not cost me any more given it is covered by my insurance. I do have a small deductible which is usually waived (covered) by most installers in this area.
Not if it's an honest co. The insurance co basically has to honor your request because Carlite is the only manufacturer with the F-150 logo. In order to use another manu. you would not get the same glass that you curently have.
