I am going to install new front leaf springs myself. I got a quote to have it done and they wanted 700.00 to do it...im not paying that...they also wanted to charge me for re-alignment too. They were telling me that they have to remove all the steering arms to swap them out.(doesnt seem right to me...It looks simple without takin all that crap off) My question is what kind of job is it? And does it have to be realigned when the leafs are reinstalled?

Alignment will be a good idea but like Neal said wait a week or two before you have it done. If you add a third leaf then you definately need an alignment. you can do the leafs yourself though. support the frame and support the axle with a jack then unbolt the u-bolts then remove the leaf spring bolts. pull the spring out. reinstall.
WHY not align it? You will probably be ok with out aligning it depending on how much the ride height changes. But keep a close eye on the front tires or else they will disappear in a hurry!
If you go thru the trouble to do the springs an alignment is nothing compared. You can check it with a measuring tape across the front and back of the tire. I have even ran a string from the rear tires to the front. The camber use a level or eyeball it. Or better yet take it and have it done professionally.
Ive changed my mind and save 300 bucks...I only plan on having this truck for another year and half till im done with school...then get a newer truck. So im not even gunna mess with anything unless its necessary.
