I am getting ready to install new window channels, division bars and vent window rubber seals in my 55 doors. I was thinking about installing the window channel first, then the division bar and finally the vent window assembly. Can anyone give me the proper steps to follow on this procedure? I certainly want to be extremely careful and not scratch the new painted doors. Would it help to use masking tape around the window opening? Any help that you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
YES. It would be very smart to use masking tape to prevent scratches during installation. Apply enough tape to make a wide margin around the opening.
The Shop Manual has all the specific steps to take for the entire install. I don't have my 56 manual at work, or I'd give the basic ones to you here. As I recall, the steps are basically to install the vent window, then division bar, then the rear channel.
You can get a Shop Manual from many of our sponsors here, Motor Haven, for one. They are also offered on eBay regularly and on line (I think). Numberdummy has given the list many times. Maybe he'll chime in here with it also. You'll need one for many things on your truck. They are invaluable.

Thanks, CW
based on the disassembly I just did, I think you have it backwards.
the vent window assembly bolts in first, cause the rubbers cover the screws.
then the division bar, cause it is screwed down into from the top of the window surround. then the channel.
