I started having trouble with the brakes on my 79 F-250. It started with the back brakes (specifically the right rear) occasionally locking up without too much pressure on the pedal. Now both rear wheel cylinders are leaking. I ran out of fluid in the rear reservoir and could barely stop. I pu the pedal all the way down and all it did was lock up the right rear. I think the proportioning valve might be stuck but I'm not sure. Is there anything I can do to pinpoint the problem?
How much shoe is left? Usually when you blow out the cyls the shoes got worn out and out of adjustment. If the shoes are shot it wouldn't take much to lock up the rear tire if the shoe is metal on metal.
I haven't had a chance to check the shoes but the last time it was in the shop ( 4 months ago) The mechanic said there was plenty of shoe left. When get a chance I will double check.
I took the truck into the shop....lots of bad news. Master cylinder isn't working. both rear drums need replaced and the front brake hoses are both leaking.
