OK now that I've rebuilt the Trac Loc I'm setting everything up today and need opinions. I know the cap bolts need to have loctite but I've read a few things about loctiting the ring gear bolts and have found it to be a 50-50 split on using it or not. Whats you guys opinion?
I was thinking that 271 was red. The high strength red is what I use when it's not going to come apart for a long time, or ever. Btw, loctite likes to be applied to clean, dry, threads.

271 is red and will only come apart if you apply heat, ie torch, heat gun. Melting point is about 350F.
242 is blue and medium strength and is removable. We use it on most everything we build for set screws, or parts that see alot of movement.
222 is medium to low strength and is used on anything with a thread diameter smaller than 1/4".
I use loctite on just about everything that might see vibration (which is most of my truck...haha). I would rather use it than lock (split) washers as they are prone to failure.
Absolutely loctite the ring gear bolts. When you buy a ring and pinion they send red loctite with. You also need to torque the ring gear bolts. I have seen three rears in the last year that the ring gear bolts came lose and ruined the rear end, one of them destroyed the rear end housing. New housing from bone yard - $500-1000, new rear end assembled - $1500, red loctite - priceless.
