I have a 1999 550 that has some electrical issues, i was hoping for alittle input. Once the truck is started, the key can be put back into the off position and the truck continues to run, and the warning lights on dash start to freak out. Also with the key out of the ignition the warning lights stay on and the blower for the heat has power. I have replaced the ignition, and checked all the fuses, and cleaned all body grounds. If I take out 50amp fuse #22 (instrument panel juction box) the truck starts, runs and shuts off fine. I have no idea on this one!
You have a moisture/corrosion/dirt problem under the dash with the PC (or whatever it is called). I have had those gobblens in two of my Super Dutys, an 01 350 that I left a window down and the interior got soaked by rain and my 00 250 that had sat for a long time before I bought it. Moisture plus dirt equals electrical paths and funny things happen. A windshield leak can allow water into the computer and cause same problems too. Someone else will have to help you with the exact name for the problematic part and how to remove it for cleaning, I "fixed" both of mine by placing a 110 volt heater in the cab for a few days to dry things out and they have been fine since.
I had the same identical problem on a 2000 F350 Superduty. After much trial and error found a burnt component on the circuit board located at the top of the instrument cluster. There was also a burnt trail on the back of the plastic wire trail (?) mounted on the back of the cluster. Replaced the cluster and all is well. Thanks for the info on fuse 22 which sent me in the right direction!
