I have a 2002 F250 with a big full replacement bumper. I noticed that the bumper had been vibrating over the last month or so. Upon further inspection I noticed that the truck brackets for the bumper that are welded to the frame are CRACKED.
I was in a little fender bender about 4 years ago. Well maybe not a fender bender, the dodge was totalled and my bumper was bent. I win. I and my insurance guy inspected the truck after the accident and did not see anything wrong. I am assuming that this may have caused the cracks and they just progressivly got worse over time.
Question is how hard is it to get those brackets replaced being that they are welded to the frame? I am sure you can't just go find a welder and have him repair it (because of insurance problems in the future). I live in the Houston area so if anyone can lend some information or a place to fix the problem it would be appreciated.
May have to go to a body shop. If they had to replace brackets, they would have to weld them on. Plus, they would have the insurance to back them because that is the kind of work they do. Probably not a big deal for them.
not a big deal at all. at school my buddy did the same thing, i grabbed my dads MIG and grinding the surface down and welded him back up. its not a permanent fix but he just needed it for a while until we finished making him the new custom winch bumper. i don't know if insurance would cover the anything though if he got in an accident afterwards.
Thanks for the input. I talked with an old friend of mine and he is going to weld it up for me. He works on Fords for the county and said that as long as you do not weld between the leaf springs you are good to go. Hopefully get it put back together tomorrow. Thanks again.
