Just after I bought 05 F250 Lariat SX4x4 the seller told me he had had a problem with the Turbo, had to be replaced because of vane failure.
Is this unusual?
Should I be concerned as were the vane ended up?
Engine sounded OK to me.

The VGT turbo can corrode and cause the turbine blades to stick. Sometimes cleaning the turbo will fix this and other times the turbo must be replaced. Running poor quality fuel, extended idling and letting the vehicle sit without use for extended periods can cause this. The newer turbo's have been changed to help prevent this.
