Adding Auto Lights and Foglights

Was about to buy a headlight switch with the Foglights option...realized I miss the auto lamps.

Is there a write-up on how to add these? Looked in the tech folder and didn't see one

What parts are needed?

Imagine you just need the switch and the 'eye' for the dash board. You might pop up the plug on the 'eye' blank and see if there is the plug for it. I'm sure the wiring for both switches is the same, would have to look at each to see though.

I know on newer Fords, the wiring is in place even if you don't have it. My '16 Explorer PI doesn't have it, but the wiring is in place...

Auto headlights

I added the sensor and switch to my X. The headlights won't come on automatically. I've heard that you need to have the VSM reprogrammed to recognize the auto headlights. I haven't taken it to the Ford dealer yet to find out.

There is a relay you can hear clicking when the autolights come on. Might be worth seeing if it is populated with a relay or has the wiring present for one.

Possibly

However, according to my wiring diagram manual, the healamp relay is in the Vehicle Security Module (VSM) and it states that it's not serviceable. I wish I could find a tech near me that could update it for me. I hate to pay the dealer rate.

Have you tried forscan? It can do all kinds of amazing things. I programmed Pat's keys with it once.

I've always wanted an AE. Maybe a good excuse to pick one up
