I saw a truck last night and it had hood spacers on it... He told me he put them on there to make fun of someone he knew who had a ricer with the same thing and then he decided he liked the look of them.
At first i didnt like the look of it but there kinda growing on me. He also told me they help with engine cooling but i am not to sure if they really would.
Do you guys have any opinions on these things? Has anyone ever seen them before? any pictures?
It is a spacer to raise the back edge of the hood to allow more air to escape for better cooling....I don't know. I haven't tried it but to me I think it would make it look like the hood hinges were sprung.
apparently they used to do this on muscle cars way before ricers, but i dont know.
This is true. This is an old drag racers edge back in the day. But it was not for cooling. Raising the back of the hood pushed the flow of air coming across the hood up the windshield making the cars a little more aerodynamic. The claim was you could cut down your 1/4 mile time by doing this correctly. And I believed it worked, if not then people would have shot it down and stopped doing it long ago.

Yes, this info is correct. HOWEVER most found it actually more beneficial to either just get a really WIDE cowl induction hood, or fiberglass on a large 'lip' at the back edge. It looked better overall. The lifted rear of the hood didn't improve your 1/4 mile time by much, however - if it netted you .05 second that was it. Which CAN be the difference between winning and losing if you're dead-nuts consistent, but most people aren't.
I've seen a lot of the hood spacers used in the jeep xj world to get heat out from under the hood. I wouldn't use them on my junk because I'd always think my hood was falling off.
