Riged up PTO

Well Im in the process of building a tilt bed truck on the cheap. I was thinking of ways to make a pto for the hydraulic pump, So my idea was to use two transfer cases one right behind the other and puting the rear one in nutral and the front one in 4WD and then run a shaft to the pump off the front transfer case.
Just wondering if anyone sees any problems with this idea before I build it.

oh yes, you should have a cover on your trans that allows for a pto to be driven off of it.

this isnt the one you need, but it would be much like the one you would need.

crawl under your truck and get me a transmission model number. also, make sure yours has a plate that you can remove. usually 6 or 8 bolts

You could divert power steering pump or put another power steering pump with a AC
clutch on it to activate when needed!!

Well I dont think a power stering pump is going to do the job. Because when I haul junk I dont mess around I smash the cars flat with the backhoe and stack them on there three high.

doesnt matter. a power steering pump is still a hydrolic pump. My grandfather rigged up a truck with a bale fork on it and the cyl was ran with a power steering pump. you wouldnt even need a second one. just run the pressure side through a 2 way valve and when u pull on the valve it would direct the pressure. when not being pulled (or pushed) your power steering would work. you just have to make sure to put a hose on the pump that you can add extra fluid in. its an ingenious way of thinking and will deff be your cheapest.

What is the most important rule with hydraulics? It is that a relatively small volume of
fluid can move a much larger volume of fluid!! Think about the size of the master cylinder bore size in comparison to the calipers and wheel cylinders all together. and
it seems logically that it couldn't control that much but it does and it does it well!!
A dump truck can raise it's bed at idle as well as at 1700rpm with a full load. You
always have the option of a electric hydraulic pump and adding 2 batteries.

Hey! I like that! You could hook it up a diverter valve so that you turned the steering wheel left to raise the bed, right to lower it!

Cool!
