Motor pause

I have a 2005 Expediton w/5.4 L with just over 10k miles on it. When excellerating at around 20 mph it is like the engine pauses and then picks right up, it also does it again at around 40 mph. It doesn't matter if you excellerate slowly or get on it hard. It is that you really notice it when you get on it hard. Any suggestions, I live about 1.5 hours from the nearest ford dealer so I would like to have some idea before going that direction.

Pay attention to what the RPM's are when this happens. Try shifting it into 2 and drive to 20, does it still do it?
