Who here has a what I think is a oil cooler mounted right at the filter base , I see a in hose and a out hose there coming off the lower radiator hose.
i have one on my current 1996 F-250 5.8L with 307,600miles and a 1994 F-150 that i sold with 157,000 miles also 5.8L i have not seen them on any 302's that i have owned !
The 351s of the mid 90s vintage had the oil coolers while the 302s did not. They were oil to water coolers using a plate mounted to the filter boss on the block and had 2 short hoses that transferred heat from the oil to the engine coolant via a special lower radiator hose section. The filter then attaches to the bottom of the plate noted earlier. This also is not the usual FL1A, but the newer FL820S.
I do not know if this is significant, but my 1995 F350 crew cab with 351 has 370,XXX miles and counting. The engine has never been opened, just changed oil - Motorcraft 5W30 - & filter every 5000 miles since 2 December 1994.

dn.
Thats a lot of miles!! on one engine, I wish I could've been the first owner of my truck, but it's only 5 years younger than me, lol. Mines knocking on 200,000 miles and I mean literally knocking, I'm looking at a motor and freshen up EVERYTHING, under the hood.
Back on topic, I also have that little oil cooler on my 96 F-150 351w. I want to find someone who makes that hose that looks or is a high presure hose with that little cooler built into it.
When I first bought this truck a couple of years ago , I bought a F1A filter then realized it took the FL 820s never saw the cooler til a couple of days ago.
Don't wanta sound like a broken record , but that is a lot of miles, hoping to get the same out of mine, Oil is leaking either from the rear of pan or the rear main seal, gotta get it looked at I was a quart and a half low come this time around , I change my oil every 3000 miles.
