batteries are draining!!!!

don't worry, the truck is still starting, but i want to assess the situation before it gets worse. when i go out to start my truck the battery guage normally goes to the center of normal then drops down to around the "N" in normal. yesterday the guage started dropping to the "N" when i turned the key forward then dropped down to around the middle between the "N" and the red mark on the far left hand side. then when i start the truck the guage goes to the red mark and the engine is cranking slightly slower than before. i bought 2 new interstate batteries early this year around January-Febuary so i don't think they can be the problem. i remember last year when i had problems with the batteries being dead as soon as i turned the truck off i found that the big wire coming off the alternator was melted so i fixed that problem. do you think that this could be the problem again. the alternator was fairly new when i bought the truck last september.

You could take it to autozone they do free alternator testing they can test it on the truck...It will check your battery voltage, starting, and charging system.

i may swing it by a buddy of mine's shop and have him check it all out and check the charging system. i don't quite trust the guys at autozone. LoL. i don't trust very many people with my truck. LoL

Travis, are you sure it's not the glow plugs working a little harder now that it's getting a little cooler?

Cody, i thought about that when i took mark for a drive yesterday with the evolution, but the truck has only been doing this since Saturday. it started doing it when i went on my lunch break at work. and the past 2 days has not been very cold at all.

Oh yeah, before i forget. when it gets really cold, cold for me being like around 35-40*, the glowplug relays never come on. the battery guage drops to just above the "O" in normal and never drops down and i hear no click after i turn the key on like i normally do. we never did test my relays cody. oh well i'm not that worried about the relays right now, i can deal with that.

I'll bet you anything that the timing bump from the programmer is causing the hard start.

that could be true, but when the glow plugs turn off then the battery gauge comes back up to just under the "O". It was doing this before we put the programmer on it.
