went to town this moring and shut my truck off for 2 minutes only to find that it wouldn't start. at first it just clicked but the secound time i tried it wouldn't do anything so we boosted it with a buddies truck and it barly started. once it was going the amp guage was all over the place. batery and alternator were both new within the last few months. truck is a 94 f150 302.
any ideas what could be wrong?
I would agree. Sounds like your battery went dead. You just need to figure out why. Start with loose connections, have the battery and the alternator checked and check your regulator.
kinda sounds like a bad regulator or a bad starter. my guess would be a bad starter though. test them both. if you are not getting 12 volts through one of them then thats your problem
should be on the passenger side fender near the battery. follow the positive battery cable to the regulator. then the positive cable goes from the regulator to the starter.
okay now i know what your talking about. I charged the battery and cleaned all the connections. the first time i tried to start it nothing happnd so i jumped the posts on the regulator. and now it seems to be working fine.

That item is called a Relay not a regulator.
If you have charging problems the regulator is inside (on the back) of the alternator.
Whoa now I'm confangled.......The way Travis described it makes me think Solenoid.....and then he said he jumped the posts......so now I'm seein nothin but solenoid......

He has a 94 so it would be a Relay and not a solenoid. The solenoid on a 94 is mounted on the starter.
