I posted this on the engine forum, but thought I might post it here too. Any help at all would be awesome.
Well I can't figure out why my truck is overheating. First I thought it was the thermostat so I bought a new one and it did nothing. Then I thought maybe the water pump and went to replace only to realize that my radiator is leaking. So I fixed that and got a new water pump and a couple new hoses. It was fine for a couple months, but now it seems like it is overheating again. I noticed that I drained the coolant fill tank after a couple weeks, then I filled again and 2 days later it was empty! Now I'm pretty sure all my hoses are tight and not leaking because I can't see any coolant anywhere around the hoses or anywhere else for that matter. Could I have blown a head gasket or something? I guess I should mention that the temp guage doesn't work either and I'm not sure if that is just the sensor is bad or if it is some sort of electrical problem. Now since I pretty much replaced the whole cooling system, does anyone know why my truck would be overheating? Any input at all would be awesome. Thanks!
If you are really loosing coolant, and no external leaks. You could very well have a blown head gasket. The coolant has to be going somewhere eh?
You temp gauge doesn't work but you "think" it is over heating? Why ?
Good luck Frank
Ok, so it turns out there was a hole in the upper radiator hose and that was causing me to lose a bunch of coolant. Now I haven't driven it yet, but hopefully today I will be able to tell for sure if it was the hole that was causing my problems or if I really did blow a head gasket or something else. Thanks for your help though.
