Repair stripped spark plug hole -- without pulling head!!
#91
Okay I think it is time for me to give an update on my origonal repair that started this thread using the save-a-thread method. Since the first post it has been quite a long time and there has been a lot of discussion regards different technics and tourqe specs with and without antisieze etc......
The repair I did with the save-a-thread kit and tourqe to 25lbs dry has still held up beutifully after just shy of 50,0000 kms. On my V10 I decided to check them recently since I changed to new plugs even before I did this repair and have since put more than 50,000kms on it towing, hauling 4x4,ing etc.... I tourqed mine to 25lbs tourqe also but didn't need to use a save-a-thread even thou 3 of my plugs could have blown a any given time before I changed them. They were perfect and the plugs are burning nicely to. I will check them again in a year or so cause I am no longer concerned with this being a problem anymore.
For peace of mind for anybody-------tourqe your plugs to 25ft/pds and if you do have a stripped hole--------use the save-a-thread kit for like 40bucks (not a 1000) and your fixed, and tourqe that all to 25ft/pds. I have repaired many since in Chev, dodge and have had awesome luck with VERY happy customers and NO comebacks.
Once again thank-you for all the interest in this topic and some really good discussion topics as well. It is a very good read...

My brother in laws truck blew one a couple weeks ago, and a local mechanic repaired it using the method mentioned 60bucks thought that was a fair price. He showed my Brother in law the tap he used and the insert, and told him where to buy the tap for the future if it happens again. The mechanic told him to make sure and use red lock tight on the insert,as he had one back out several years ago, but none since. Seems like a very good way to repair the holes.

I just wanted to take the time to thank everyone for their knowledge. I used the helicoil mentioned above and it worked like a charm. Also, you don't have to buy a new coil from the dealer, you can buy aftermarket for half the price. The dealer wanted $98 while the local speed shop only wanted $50.
