Ignition parts

I am looking at tune up kits (dist. cap, rotor, plug wires) for my '79 302ci. The cheapest and most available kits start at 1984 and cover a wide variety of years. Was there a major ignition change that year that would keep those kits from working on my '79?
When I narrow the search down to '79, there are only a few choices, if any.
Duraspark maybe? I don't know much about that, I'll have to research.
Chris

On or about that time, Ford started using a larger distributor cap. But you can use it also on a 79, you just need the "cap adapter" that's the lower portion of the newer large cap. The parts houses have these too, Standard Igniton (Vendor for engine igniton parts) has the whole thing in a single kit........cap, cap adapter and rotor. Their blue with brass terminals are the best as for longetivity. Many have aluminum terminals that tends to build up carbon deposits in the cap terminals. I use the brass terminal caps & rotors, with Ford Racing's 9mm wires for the small block (these run about $40-45 a set thru Summit or Jegs) And Autolite plugs.

Thanks. That makes sense...I seem to remember using that cap adapter for a TFI upgrade on my Jeep Wrangler. Should be an easy fix, 'preciate it.

The TFI distributors use a screw on type, the early 80's used a snap on.
