My two uncles have Revos's and I have ridern in both of their pickups in deep snow and on the highway, they ride like you are on rails and have excellent traction also, although they are a ittle pricey they are an excellent tire, i plan on using them on my vehicle
I don't know if the 285's will fit on the 2003 and up Expeditions, but I know a lot of users on here are running 285's on stock rims on their 97-02's. The REVO's do have a nice reputation as being a dependable tire for all seasons.
285's should fit on a stock offset. 285/70-17's are 32.8" tall.
The recommended tire size for my 22's on a stock truck is 305/45-22 which is 32.9" I can't say that they wouldn't have rubbed because I also installed the truxxx lift before driving on them. But discount tire said they'd fit without rubbing and with the truxxx lift I can fit up to 35's.

The truxxx lift is great! It would clear a 35 if it was a narrow 35. I tlked to truxxx about this and they told me 35's will clear with a stock offset and a narrow tire.
I run 34x11.50r17 swampers for snow tires wihtout any problems on the factory 17" wheels
