All right. I have the itch to trade in for something newer. I have seen a fewer 05 Eddie Bauers around that I really like and I found a nice one on the web. Most of the 05 EB's on the web have the DVD player. Is this the case for all of them? The one I saw for sale doesn't show any interior pics other than the front seat and I really don't want to play the dealership games just yet. The DVD player would be great for the kids.
Does anyone know if they were standard on the 05 EB's?
The DVD player is not standard, but if the price is right and mechanicals good I would not rule it out. Circuit City or smaller independent shops can give you a system at least as good as the factory one for anywhere from $500 to $1500, higher end would be the in-seat mounted screens.
Mine has the Ford player, and don't get me wrong, I like it, especially for the integration into the factory stereo, can pause by hitting 3&5 radio presets for instance, but the screen is SMALL especially if watching full movies to occupy kids. No good way to put in larger screen since it's all part of the plastic housing what the plaer is in also. Anyway, just remind you there are options if the deal on that one is a great.
My Ex is only an XLT...I've got two daughters 8 and 10...we've pulled our camper behind this Ex over 12,000 miles the last two years...withOUT a built in DVD...I bought them EACH a 7" portable DVD to hold in their lap...they can watch whatever movie they choose...as it seems 'compromise' isn't in an 8 or 10 year olds vocabulary...so for $200 (less today) I've got two DVD players that oh by the way...they can bring in the TT at night and unwind in their own bunks watching something if they choose...the built-ins are nice...but I think this way is more flexible (BTW...I've got a built-in in our mini-van but we do NOT travel near the distances we do in the Ex)
So that said...I personally wouldn't let the 'lack' of a factory DVD sway my thinking...
Very true Ieathybrids. Ford DVD players I think or not very good at all. My buddy has one in his EB and I think my kids portables look better and are larger.
Id rather get one after market. The pic quality is probally alot better for a cheaper or almost equal price. U cant go wrong with that. Especially if u get a name brand like panasonic, sony or LG, but i dont know if lg makes car dvd's? But either way, those companies (panasonic and sony) are extremely good at making LCD and HD tv's, so chances are, they are good at making LCD's for cars
That is true. I remember when I saw how much the charge was for the 6disk changer in my truck when I bought itand I was like I will never again get a ford accesories. You cannot even hook up another stereo head and have the disk changer work without a lot of work. What a waste that was. Sony is sweet choice if you can afford it.
I like the the Ford DVD player because my kids can watch it in the back with the headphones and I can turn the volume all the way down. But then again portable DVD players would do the same thing for a lot less. But then again...if it's already in the Ex then consider yourself lucky.
I had my built in one replaced 3 times under warranty. The second one was not used for 6-8 months after it was installed and did not work when I wanted it to.
