Is head gasket right?
I pulled a 460 out of a junkyard 85 F-250 to install in my '55 F100. I've got the short block done and today I went to finish the long block and ran into something that doesn't look right. The head gasket that came with the engine kit looks like it covers up the water passeges at the top of the block. Everything else looks right except those passages. I have the gasket on right. Even so, I did try to flip it over and around but that obviously doesn't work. Thinking I had the wrong head gasket I went to NAPA to get the correct one. I looked at all the versions they show for the 460 and they match the one I have. The one I have is Fel-Pro part #8265PT1.
Now I'm wondering if those passages aren't meant to be blocked. It appears not as they look to match the passages on the head. Can anyone shed some light on this?
