Using side mirrors?

I had a moment on thursday,I was heading to a doctors app and was running a little late I was traveling north on the Garden state parkway behind some one in a newer four door volvo and we we doing about 75mph for about 5 miles most of it spent in the passing lane as there was a little traffic well the car had slowed down and moved to the right about a 1/4 mile before a exit/enter ramp so I stayed put in the left lane as I saw some cars getting on and went past the volvo when I got to the top of the entrance ramp I checked my mirror to see if I could get over and I see the volvo sliding sideways and just gaining control and pulled over to the side of the road,The only thing I can figure out is as I was going past it they must of decided that they wanted to get back in the left lane and didn't look in the mirror to see if anyone was there and just about lost it completely. This car also had a baby on board sign in the window. Now when I am driving I allways check my surroundings before I make any kind of lane change or do anything for that matter and just for your info by the time I went past I had slowed down to 65mph.I can't tell how many times I have been forced over by some one not using their side mirrors and I do not ride in the left lane just pass and I aways signal.

Anybody else have this happen to them?

Yes that has happened to me..

I have also had problems with lane changers who don't look before changing lanes.

I have had times when I put the blinker on and begin to move into the middle lane only to find some other bonehead who is not looking and also tries to get in that lane...

I can't tell how many times I have been forced over by some one not using their side mirrors and I do not ride in the left lane just pass and I aways signal.
It isn't that they don't use them.. Most people do not know how to adjust them properly.. They usually have them set so they are looking at the side of their car..
Then there are the others, like my sister-in-law, who do not turn their head to look.. It is scary riding with her...

1 idiot found out what lugnut lunch was! Hit me in the steer tire with his car! BTW,,, it WAS a Cadilac! His BAC was 1.94 = double drunk!

I get idiots who don't signal or check their mirrors all the time, but I try to leave extra space so I've never had any problems. It's the idiots who are going 50 or more over the limit and weaving between all the lanes that get to me.

The problem is people only use their side mirrors without turning their heads to see other vehicles in their blind spots before switching lanes.

As long as you are the fastest thing on the road, you don't need the mirrors!

I recall moving from TX where turn signals meant "I am going to turn when conditions allow" to CA where turn signals mean "I am turning NOW"...... took a little getting used to.

Fish-eye lenses are a beautiful thing. Not only do they eliminate almost all of my blind spots (close and directly behind me is still a bad one, makes it almost impossible to parallel park), but they allow me to back into a driveway or next to a curb and see exactly where my tires are.

I almost changed lanes into someone in an '88 Sable once...thought I was going to flip that car when I corrected. That was over 10 years ago...learned my lesson...

First lesson of defensive driving, kill them before they kill me.

I normally run the speed limit down the highway, 70 mph is fast enough, I just stay to the right and let the jackasses fly past. If they feel 110 mph is safe then I'd rather have them far away from me.

I set my rearview mirror so it looks straight over the back of the tailgate, I set my side mirrors so they slightly over lap what I see in my rearview, and I use the fish-eyes to make sure my blind spots down the sides are clear. The way I was taught was, rear view mirror, then side mirror, then over the shoulder, if all 3 are clear then you make your lane change.

I cant even count how many times someone has cut directly in front of me without a signal. Normally I mash the pedal to the floor, fly past them and cut them off without a signal, I then return to my normal speed and give them the finger as they drive by again. I've got a baseball bat behind the seat, and my USP in my pocket if they'd like to make something of it. I don't take kindly to people trying to kill me on the road.

Last guy that did that to me was on the side of the road because he got pulled over by a cop when I passed him. He had to be doing 50 over the limit when he passed me and with the new laws in my province he's in for a big fine it's $10,000 plus roadside vehicle impounding and licence suspension. I'd say he got what he deserved, plus he was driving a yota .

I really can't count how many times it has happened to me and thank god I am such a defensive driver, but I do remember two times that I thought I was going to wreck,a guy in a ranger with a cap came over on me just as my front end was even with his rear tire I was in a old toyota station wagon power nothing and the only part of that car that didn't go into the grass was the pass side front wheel and to this day I still don't no how I kept it under control and another if it wasn't for a exit ramp being there for me I would have ended up in the woods.

Someone does something stupid and dangerous to you and you respond by doing something stupid and dangerous back .... then giving him the finger. Sounds like you two are a matched pair.
