IF!!!! (thin line)

ok IF i could get ahold of a same year model truck (2000 f-150 4.6) that was wrecked could I use a 4x4 junk truck to convert my 2x4 good truck. Would I just need axle transmission springs transfer case ... or would it involve changing out cpu also are the frames the same are the mounting points there already

Well, the front suspension is totally different. The 4x4 doesn't use springs, it has a torsion bar set-up. Your best bet would be to do a frame or body swap. You will need the proper GEM module for a 4x4 as well.

I wanted to do the same thing to my truck, but it would of been too much of a hassle. By the way its 4x2, not 2x4.

You'd be best off swapping the entire frame, suspension etc. Basically keep your body if its that nice - and change everything else. You'd also have electrical components to wire in which could entail getting a whole new dash wire harness and GEM module. If you used a floor shifter you'd have to possibly cut and mount the shifter - you have relays above your glove box to install for the 4x4 front axles to engage and a new GEM module to control the 4x4 functions.

"IF!!!!" the "wrecked" donor "could" supply all the parts you'd need & you were a glutton for punishment-YES. IMO it sounds like far more work than its worth. These are abundant-not rare vehicles & conversion is not a desperate, last chance, emergency-nor does it offer anything a factory built 4X4 has. Its no doubt quicker, cheaper, easier & dramatically less frustrating just picking up a 4X4 & getting it up to speed, than rolling those dice. In my region there are loads of gas guzzlers flooding the market-bargains abound.
