I am ready to buy an overdrive for my 59' f250 4x4 I6 t-98. Can anyone tell me if it is a np205 t-case? Or what is it. The t-case is mounted in the middle of the frame(divorced from the trans..). So there is a small shaft(about 16") from the trans. to the t-case. Gear vendor says their unit bolts to the rear of the t-case. Won't this make the rear drive shaft too short? How short is too short?
Does any one have any better suggestions? Is there a different unit on the market?
I don't care. It has 4:56 gears And I would like to be able to run on the highway and not lose my off road gearing. I can't go faster than 35mph @4500rpm. Like a DC-10 taching up for takeoff.
If it is the stock divorced t-case, then it is a spicer 24, not an NP205. Like the NP205 it is gear driven. It would cost you some money, but they make divorced np205's that you might be able to swap in and then add a gear vendors unit to it. Another option would be install 4:10 gears so you motor is not screaming.
