Glow Plugs

This is another ongoing (winter) problem with my 88 F350 7.3 mt, the glow plugs seem to shut off with less than a second of preheating. Every year, the shop replaces some glow plugs and charges me lots. It sounds to me like something is not hooked up. A few years ago, before we added the Banks, there was a fitting or something loose or unhooked, does this ring a bell with anyone? Where should I look?
